Kitchen Story – A Lovely Green Camark Pottery Pitcher

by

You may think your kitchen is just that messy room where you hurry to pull together the ingredients needed to feed your family 2 or 3 times a day – and then everyone scatters again. For most moms and grandmothers, though, the kitchen is the heart of their family. It’s where they can listen in on conversations and also share their wisdom and love. It’s the most important room in their home. In your home, too.

Because of this, we chose to add photographs of kitchen tools and objects to our Photo Collections. We want you to decorate the walls of your kitchen with the same love and attention that you give to your family room and bedroom. Kitchens are filled with delicious memories and you can enhance those with meaningful photographs.

Camark Art Pottery

When someone near and dear to me asked me if I would like to photograph some pieces from her Camark Art Pottery collection for our Kitchen Stories photographs I jumped at the chance. She has been collecting Camark Art Pottery for many years and has a lovely group of pieces. I am fascinated by how they are all so different. I especially love the jugs and pitchers and have photographed several of them. You can see them all here

What delights me about Camark Art Pottery is that it is a local Arkansas pottery. Founded in 1926, Camden Art Tile and Pottery Company or Camark was the last producer of art pottery in Camden, right here in our home state of Arkansas. They produced art pottery for 56 years until 1982. Pieces of Camark Art Pottery are highly collectible.

We added a photo of the lovely green pitcher to our Kitchen Stories collection because of its glorious green color and classic shape. Camark’s sales catalogs called this color “Frosted Green.” It is one of 8 matt glazes that they used in addition to 3 bright glazes.

Camden, Arkansas

From the 1930s to the 1950s, Camark Art Pottery was the best-known industry in Camden. Camden is a small town of around 10,000 residents in the south-central part of Arkansas. More importantly, Camark provided a lasting contribution to the history of decorative arts and art pottery in the state.

In addition to being home to the Camark Art Pottery factory, Camden is also known for being the originating city for two other interesting exports. The first is the talented singer, songwriter and dancer Ne-Yo. The second is Grapette soda, created in 1939 and still available at your local Walmart. Pretty astounding for a small town in south-central Arkansas!

Aren’t you glad you read this article? I mean, where else would you have learned those amazing bits of trivia about a small town in Arkansas?
